The project will install a total of seven speed humps on two road sections to reduce vehicle speeding.
The BC Vision Zero grant will support the installation of speed cushions to reduce vehicle speeds along College Park Way and Klahanie Drive.
Port Moody uses data on traffic speed and volume, along with secondary factors such as the presence of school zones, bike routes, or transit routes, to prioritize different potential locations for traffic calming. Collage Park Way and Klahanie Drive were selected for this grant funding because these were two locations with the highest scoring under the City’s Neighbourhood Traffic Calming Policy prioritization list and are not addressed through other initiatives or programs.
The City identified speed humps and cushions as appropriate traffic calming measures given the geometric designs of the roads, and has contracted with firms to implement speed cushions at these locations. The City will install speed cushions on these streets, and conduct pre- and post-implementation traffic speed and volume monitoring to determine the effectiveness of these implementations.
