Silver Bridge RRFB – Harris Road

Summary

The project upgraded the Trans Canada Trail multiuse crossing at Harris Road by installing a Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacon (RRFB). It is located in the City Pitt Meadows at the south end of Silver Bridge over the Alouette River.

The multiuse crossing of Harris Road at the south end of Silver Bridge is busy with a variety of users. Whether it’s pedestrians crossing the road, vehicles entering the nearby parking lot, or cyclists accessing the dike trails, road users often visit this area to enjoy the beauty of Pitt Meadows. Additionally, there is a water activity centre nearby which provides the only water access to this area of the Alouette River making it a desired destination.

The RRFB upgrade increased the safety of the variety of users in the area while maintaining the painted and signed multipurpose crossing. This will build on improvements previously implemented by increasing awareness of the crossing for drivers, improving safety for vulnerable users, and generally promoting a safer use of the trail network at this major arterial road crossing.
