This project will improve our existing crosswalk to increase safety for vulnerable road users.
The goal of this project are to create a safe path of travel for members of the community and staff. Currently, the band operates out of two buildings which are across the street from one another and require members and staff to walk back and forth from these buildings with no safety precautions in place.
On average, it is suspected that there 20 crossings per day where the person crossing must walk up to the edge of the road and wait for an opening between vehicles to cross the road. Although still hazardous, the crossing is made even more dangerous due to the lack of a clear line of site for drivers. On one side of the road is a turn off from an 80km/h zone which has vehicles coming in quick and from out of site. The other side is an intersection where vehicles don't always see the person waiting to cross the street.
By increasing the visibility of this location with proper identification (street signs, cross walks, possibly speed bumps), this project will drastically reduce the potential for dangerous situations. This will also give members and staff more confidence to cross the street on foot as currently.
