This BC Vision Zero grant will fund the purchase and installation of two digital speed limit signs on the approach to the Sq'éwqel Community School to reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety for children and other community members in this area.
Seabird Island’s goals are to increase safety on the road for the Seabird Island community. Members have voiced concerns and noted that the safety of our children, elders, and land is a priority. Seabird Island can reduce the risk of potential injuries for our vulnerable road users, and we are taking to do so.
We received a BC Vision Zero grant in 2021-2022 to improve and repair safety signage in our community. We are excited to see the impact of the signs that we have installed throughout the community. With this year’s grant, we will purchase and install two digital speed limit signs for our school zones to improve safety for our vulnerable road users by increasing driver compliance with the lower speed limit near our school.
