To access the Ka:yu:’k’t’h’/ Che:k’tles7et’h’ community, travellers are required to drive on over 70 kilometres of Forestry Resource Roads where active logging is regularly occurring and the roads conditions can vary greatly based upon the weather conditions. This project will fund an accredited driver training program and empower workers and community members to make safe decisions when traveling on these roads.
The Ka:yu:’k’t’h’/ Che:k’tles7et’h’ community is only accessible using the Forestry Resource Roads. The roads are regularly used by forestry equipment and heavy machines associated with road maintenance and forestry. The road conditions can also vary greatly based upon weather conditions.
The BC Forest Safety Council has an accredited driver training program that workers undertake to enhance their safety. However, the same training is not offered to the community, who are required to use the same roads to get in-and-out of town.
This project is timely as a number of near collisions have occurred on the road and so have a number of serious vehicle accidents. Delivering a driver training program that would equip and enhance one's driving skills will empower the community to travel more safely on these roads.
