Road Safety Signs, Wildlife Mitigation Measures and Equipment

Summary

This project will install stop signs, speed signage, and speed bumps in the community. The grant will also support regular plowing and sanding maintenance of roadways and parking lots in main community areas, including the clinic, Band office, and community hall.

Project Overview

Ulkatcho First Nation’s Vision Zero Project will install wildlife & stop signs, speed signage, and speed bumps in the community. Cattle guards and fences will be added to deter livestock and wildlife from entering the community and crossing the main road, which can be hazardous for motorists. The grant will also support regular plowing and sanding maintenance of roadways and parking lots in main community areas, including the clinic, Band office, and community hall. These actions will increase the safety of the elderly and employees when they arrive at the community facilities. The installed equipment will relieve the Band from contracting a clearing and maintenance service. Consequently, the project will provide sustainable employment for community members in winter.
