Pedestrian Safety Study

Summary

This project will create a Pedestrian Safety Study for the District, identifying areas where hazards that impact pedestrian safety need improvement, construction, and/or revitalization.

Project Overview

The District of Houston has a number of high risk intersections in which pedestrians are at risk when they attempt to cross. In order to keep pedestrians safe, Staff have identified a need to develop a Pedestrian Safety Study which will identify high risk areas and provide advice on how to reduce the risk to pedestrians through means of road improvements, including a pedestrian safety plan.

This plan will involve a comprehensive study to guide future actions. The absence of an in-house planner in the District poses a significant challenge. Securing funding for this initiative would bring about a substantial transformation for residents, enabling them to navigate the community more freely and, most importantly, with enhanced safety. This effort will complement the existing Active Transportation and Trail Plan, facilitating well-considered and educated decision-making processes.
