This project will implement low-cost infrastructure improvements in front of Harrison Hot Springs Elementary School during school hours to improve safety for students and their caregivers and to encourage active travel to and from school. These actions will be supplemented with a local road safety education campaign to foster a safer community for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users.
Parking at Harrison Hot Springs Elementary School is extremely limited. This results in families having to park a distance away and walk to drop off their children. There is a crosswalk marked on Walnut Ave, however, it lacks a rapid flashing beacon. In the fall and winter seasons it is often still dark at drop off and pick up times, resulting in a decrease in visibility for pedestrians at this crosswalk. While there have been no recorded accidents at this location, this project aims to ensure that statistic remains at zero.
