The Wuikinuxv Vision Zero 2023 Project will have four integral components: first, road infrastructure changes; second, road safety planning; third, community consultations, and; fourth, public awareness campaigns.
The effects of drinking and driving in the community is devastating. The Community Road Safety Committee will help raise awareness about the issue and provide reminders to drive safely. We want to reinforce the bylaws around safe driving. There has been a fatality and four people medevac'd out of the community within the last 10 years – a big deal when there are only 95 people in our community. One fatality is too much. We are aiming for zero – Vision Zero. Wuikinuxv received a Vision Zero grant from VCH in 2019 and 2020. We created the first FN MADD chapter in Canada, and we want to build on this initiative. The community members have concerns around road safety; it is a priority for Wuikinuxv right now.
