Falcon Way Streetscape - Safety for All

Summary

This BC Vision Zero grant funding will support a comprehensive transportation network within the Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) improving pedestrian safety and connectivity, calming traffic, and enhancing the character of the streetscape.

Project Overview

This initiative is envisioned to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity, including traffic calming measures and enhancing the character and streetscape within the TFN Community Area Plan. In late 2023, TFN staff initiated the request for consulting design services and construction contract administration. By early 2024, the contract was selected by the TFN Executive Council. Vision Zero funding was allocated to support community engagement and pay for the contracted Falcon Way streetscape plan designs.

Insights gained from the Falcon Way Streetscape Design project guided TFN staff during community engagement in May 2024, focusing on streetscape design for Tsawwassen Drive.

The goals include:

   • Implementing Traffic Calming measures, such as raised pedestrian crossings at key intersections.

   • Enhancing Pedestrian Connectivity and Safety by providing a separated 1.5m sidewalk on the south side of Falcon Way.

   • Creating a Liveable Street environment through grading that integrates front yards with the Road Right-of-Way (ROW).

   • Reflecting TFN Identity through Placemaking, including incorporating Coast Salish designed crosswalks and banners.

   • Addressing Parking needs on Raven Lane and Falcon Way, with parking provided on Raven Lane and parking bays as well as on-street parking on Falcon Way.

   • Integrating Falcon Way Community Park into the project, with features like benches, boulevards, sidewalks, street trees, etc., along the park frontage of Falcon Way.
