City of Enderby Traffic Calming

Summary

The City of Enderby will utilize the funding received to purchase the following traffic calming equipment:

  1. A Black CAT Radar unit which will allow for the collection of critical traffic data. This unit will be deployed in key areas throughout the community where there are potential road safety issues. Data collected will be used to develop detailed traffic reports.
  2. A SafePace 100 Speed Sign which is a portable, compact radar speed sign that can be programmed to blink at a specified speed, informing motorists when they need to slow down. The radar speed sign will be used as a portable unit that will be moved throughout the community. The radar speed sign will help to act as a visual traffic calming measure and help to reduce speeds and increase safety.

Project Overview

Like every other municipality, the City of Enderby experiences issues related to road safety, particularly speeding. ICBC collision data confirms that Enderby has the second highest ’5 year injury collisions per 1,000 people’ of all of the communities in the North Okanagan. The City’s proposed deployment of a radar unit and radar speed sign will help to reduce instances of speeding within key areas of concern, particularly school zones, while also enabling the collection of data that can be used to inform the City’s approach to traffic calming and the deployment of resources, while also allowing for information sharing with the RCMP to enable targeted and effective enforcement.
