This project will install speed humps to reduce vehicle speeds and improve vulnerable road user safety next to a park and near two elementary schools.
Infrastructure and safety are Council priorities in the City of Port Coquitlam. The City takes speeding and pedestrian safety concerns seriously and addresses them through a combination of enforcement, education, and infrastructure solutions.
The BC Vision Zero grant program is funding the installation of speed humps next to Routley Park and near Hazel Trembath and École Mary Hill elementary schools. Infrastructure like raised crosswalks, speed humps, and improved street lighting has been shown to be effective in reducing speeds to below the posted limits and improving pedestrian safety and comfort. The grant funds will improve safety by supporting the construction of speed humps to reduce vehicle speeds at locations where the potential for drivers to collide with children and their caregivers is of particular concern, such as near these schools and park.
